Bengal was ruled by Buddhist and Hindu rulers till 10th Century.After that it remain the part of Moghul empire from 1526 to 1757.It also remained under control of British from 1757 to 1947,till gaining Independence as a part of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In 1971,it became Bangladesh after the Indo-Pak war.Since gaining independence from Pakistan in 1971, Bangladesh has witnessed political chaos ans instability.Sheikh Muji ur Rehman the founder of Bangladesh was assassinated in 1975 and president Zai ur Rehman was killed in 1982.He was followed by Abdul Sattar,Abdul Fazal,Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Shahbuddin and and other in quick session. In 2002, Iajuddin Ahmed Became President. On the party level,Begum Khalida Zia of Nationalist part and hasina Wajid of Awami league had been ruling the Country alternately till October 2006. Since then,an interim Government is charge of country.
